Papers, 1908, 1917-1919.

Original letters written by Hoppin during World War I to his family in Milwaukee (Wis.) with transcriptions. Hoppin, who was a writer with the Minneapolis Journal, enlisted in the American Expeditionary Force in Minneapolis in 1918 and his letters describe his training at Camp Travis in San Antonio (Tex.), transport to England, and his landing in France. Hoppin developed a foot problem in France and saw no action, spending the remainder of the war in Red Cross hospitals in France, New York City, and Chicago.
